Two weeks ago Ashlyn went into out-patient surgery to have tubes put into both ears. Though I knew the tubes were not going to be a big deal I was a little concerned with them putting my baby under. We arrived at the clinic at 730 and were brought into surgery at 810 where we spent about 30 minutes getting Ashlyn ready for surgery- gown, socks, reading, putting strawberry scents into her "gas" mask, giving her medicine, talking to her doctors and nurse, etc. All the care we received was wonderful and as they rolled our little girl away the calm left and the reality set in. She wasn't to leave mom and dad quietly and after surgery (which was no more than 30 min) Dr. Chong came into recovery to talk to us and informed us that Ashlyn has quite a scream. He said it a little kinder "she is fiesty"---yes, she can be! But everything went well. We knew she had fluid on both ears and it was causing a mild hearing loss and now she hears great! One ear was better than they thought and one worse and now they are both great. She was crying in her sleep when we came into recovery but within hearing our voices she was awake and ready to go in about 20 minutes. Within a couple of hours after surgery you would have never known she had even had surgery. What a trooper!

Thanks for sharing these! It's giving me a visual for what we are about to go through with our little 1-yr-old Abe. He has a cyst on his hand that they are removing... I just cried with the thought of surgery, him going under, and having to be away from us to have it done... God is good and knows all things. Congrats on the new baby!! Yeah for Ashlyn making it through like a trooper -- and yeah for new babies! The Slaughters are thrilled for the Millers and look forward to pics of the new babe in the spring.
